Have Fun with Unconventional Save the Date Cards

Who says Save the Date cards have to be lackluster?

A save the date card is a reminder to your friends and loved ones that a very significant – and extraordinary – event is taking place in the coming months. By sending out a save the date card, you’re asking them to mark their datebooks with the details, so they won’t forget to notch out the time in order to attend. But it’s so easy to overlook an important date when the aide memoire is easily forgettable. That’s why you should take a risk and go for the less-than-traditional save the date card. It could be flirtatious, amusing, lighthearted, bohemian, adventurous, bright or even just a little bit trendy, just as long as it’s uniquely you.

Check out the list below for four very fun and offbeat save the date cards that are sure to capture your personality and leave a lasting impression on soon-to-be invitees.

Couple Save-The-Date Card

What’s wonderful about the Couple Save-The-Date Card is its delightful nature. The landscape-format card features a playful black-and-white sketch of a smiling bride and groom (the bride is on the left corner, the groom on the right) with seven imperfectly hand-drawn – but youthful and fun – red hearts fluttering about. The information text (between bride and groom) is written in an italicized font that takes on an almost-handwritten feel, while the “Save the Date” header is written in a quirky font. To add to the lightheartedness, a simple red swirling flourish is placed underneath the header. This type of card is perfect for the good-humored couple who loves the look of cheery, hand-drawn sketches.

In Love Save-The-Date Card

Cool and charming, the In Love Save-The-Date Card is ideal for the sweet, romantic couple. With its slight bohemian touch, this portrait-format card features an all-CAPS “Save the Date” header written in a Helvetica font, with two small butterflies floating on above the word “Date,” in green and pink. The information text is written in a chic modern curly-q font, flushed right of page (as is “Save the Date”). Three-fourths of the card is colored in a subdued off-white, while the background of the bottom one-fourth is painted in a muted moss green (a dotted divider is place a little bit above the box’s border). This card also works for the couple living in Philadelphia, as the bottom of the card also features an artsy take on the famous “Love” statue – instead of an O, there’s a circle of vibrant sky blue flower petals, and the V is, instead, a pink heart (the L is in yellow and the E in dark blue). There’s no better way to show love for each other – and your hometown – than with this Save the Date card.

Seashell Hearts Save-The-Date Card

Getting married on the beach? Then the Seashell Hearts Save-The-Date Card is your best bet for an elegant card that truly encapsulates your sun-and-sand personality. The portrait-format card’s center features a white bordered square photo of a clear blue ocean sweetly kissing a sandy shoreline with the words “Save the Date” written in the sand (a white hand-drawn starfish rests slightly above the photo). Two-thirds of the card is painted in a soft sky blue, with a thick light blue rectangle block, accented by dark blue and white borders, cutting across the middle (and behind the photo). The bottom one-third is painted in a corresponding light blue (to the thick border) – this is where the information text is set, in both a sweeping italic font and an all-CAPS Serif font. This beach-inspired piece is a wonderful way of reminding invitees of your big day, and to let them know they’re in for some fun in the sun.

Save-The-Date Cards Green Card with Pink Accents

The Save-The-Date Green Card with Pink Accents is a chic and modern piece that fuses sophistication and elegance effortlessly. The background is pained in a rich yellow-green, with the “Save the Date” header written in a large bold and looping italicized font. The information text, written in an all-CAPs aristocratic-esque font, is placed on top of a large, light pink box, accented by dark pink and white borders. A minimalistic sweeping corner flourish, which mimics the very top of the “D” in the “Save the Date” header, juts out from the bottom left hand side of the piece. It’s an exceptionally beautiful piece that will add softness and style to the marketing of your event.

Remember, save the date cards don’t have to be boring and conventional, so take a chance and go for the avant-garde and fanciful. If you send out a card that stands out, then invitees will surely remember to set aside the date to honor your beautiful day.
