Beware of Spoof Websites Spoof E-Mail
Spoof websites are becoming a threat to anyone with access to the internet today. Mailboxes are being flooded by spoof websites emails with vague communication directing consumers to update their personal information on a web site because of a purported loss of data or a clerical error. Little do consumers realize that they are actually being taken via a hyperlink to a fradulent spoof website where their personal information will be used to defraud them.
How do spoof web-sites operate?
Usually, a specific group of internet users are targeted by sending out e-mail related to the recipient’s habits by spoof websites. E-mail letters are generally sent to customers that appear to be from very organization that is providing them a service such as their ban, their internet service provider or their credit card issuer by these spoof websites.
A spoof e-mail ID will generally appear to be identical to the organization it wishes to impersonate. Corporate logos may also be pasted into the body of spoof e-mails to give them an official appearance.
In the light of internet related frauds commited by spoof web-sites, you are advised not to give out credit card number and personal information on the internet on receipt of communication that directs you to do so.
